Located in the Ribeira Valley, Iporanga has earned the title of “Cave Capital” for its impressive natural beauty amidst its geographical formations. The region is recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site. This shows the extent of the area’s environmental and ecological importance.

If you’ve already been charmed by the small country town and its natural beauty, you can’t fail to visit. Although tourism moves through the region all year round, the best time to visit the caves and waterfalls is between April and November, when the weather is milder and the trip is more pleasant.
In addition to the impressive geological formations, Iporanga also offers radical attractions for those who enjoy adventure. Among the options are cycling, boating, abseiling and quieter activities such as bird watching.
Finally, you should know that the main entrance to the Alto Ribeira Tourist State Park, PETAR, is located in this municipality. So if you’ve always dreamed of visiting this tourist spot, now is the time! In addition, you’ll find traditional and quilombola communities as a cultural tourism option in the town of 4,200 inhabitants. It’s a very rich experience.
How to get to the town?
Iporanga is about 300 km from the capital. The best way to get to this beautiful destination is to take the Régis Bittencourt highway (BR-116) to exit 475, take the SP-193 and then the SP-165. The journey takes around 4h30. We therefore recommend that you plan at least two days to enjoy the attractions.
