It’s that time of year that everyone’s been waiting for! After all, in addition to the extensive program taking place throughout the city, the traditional illuminated buses are already circulating around São Paulo.
And the best part: as well as having the chance to go home in a Christmassy mood after work, you can travel on them for free. This is because, on weekends in December, 89 illuminated vehicles leave from three points in the city so that as many people as possible can enjoy the trip and get to know the tree.
SP’s illuminated buses
One of the main attractions of Christmas in São Paulo is, of course, the special operation of illuminated buses. In 2024, this began last Saturday, December 30, and will continue until December 31, bringing the festive spirit of the period to the population.
In all, there will be 135 buses with lights, Christmas decorations and drivers dressed as Santa Claus. In other words, as well as a trip to Ibirapuera Park, you can stroll around the city in the Christmas spirit any day.
The initiative is a partnership between SPTrans and the companies operating the municipal public transport system. The regular lines run every day with the Christmas decorations and the fare remains normal, at R$4.40.
Free rides to the Christmas tree
Finally, in addition to the decorations dedicated to the Christmas period, the population once again has free rides to the Ibirapuera Park Christmas Tree. In this case, the rides run until the 22nd, on Saturdays and Sundays, departing from 6pm to 8pm. Returns to the neighborhoods take place at 10pm.
So, take your chance and check out where the free illuminated buses depart from below:
