The new exhibition ‘FUSÃO’ by visual artist Gustavo Magalhães is now on show. Born in Paraná, his works draw parallels between art and everyday life, while addressing issues such as race, identity and violence.
To compose his paintings, the artist uses discarded materials he finds on the street, such as wood, paper and fabrics. In this way, the show also promotes reflection on the logic of consumption and disposal, highlighting the importance of materiality in art.
‘FUSÃO’ is on show until November 24 at CAIXA Cultural (Praça da Sé, 111 – Centro Histórico). Admission is free, just arrive and enjoy. Check it out!
What to expect from ‘FUSÃO’?
For Gustavo Magalhães, the “imperfections” of a material, such as cracks, stains or irregular textures, are essential for the imagistic construction of a work. Thus, by using discarded materials, he reinterprets these elements, creating a new meaning in the painting.
Furthermore, by using second-hand materials, he also alludes to the precarious conditions that non-white artists have to work with today.
Among the collection, there are also suspended works that add even more impact to the visit.
