Since May 13, the city of São Paulo has been on alert with the news of a strike by bus drivers and fare collectors SindMotoristas – Union of Drivers and Urban Road Transport Workers of São Paulo approved a state of strike in the vehicles of the São Paulo capital. This stage precedes the strike, which is due to take place next Friday, the 7th.
How are operations?
Despite the movements, so far bus lines in the São Paulo capital are operating normally.
On the other hand, as of June 7, we can expect the stoppage of this sector of public transport to affect all lines in the city. The group plans assemblies in garages, demonstrations in terminals, an open letter to São Paulo residents and the possibility of a free turnstile on buses, in addition to the 24-hour strike, which has been approved.
Faced with this scenario, these professionals are still hoping to resolve the situation, waiting for better negotiations between the union and the employer sector. But the attempts have been going on for 45 days, with no progress as expected.
Reasons for the bus strike in São Paulo
According to SindMotoristas in a statement, the “employers’ intransigence has reached its limit”, in other words, the employers’ inflexibility regarding labor agreements with contracted drivers and collectors has led the union to approve the strike. In this way, salaries, working conditions and benefits for these professionals will be renegotiated by the organizations in order to find an agreement between the parties.
So far, it is known that the proposed salary increase was 2.77% based on the IPC-FIPE, but the group is aiming for 3.20% based on the INPC-IBGE. There are also other demands at stake, such as: PLR, medical insurance, reduced working hours and an end to the 1 hour unpaid meal.
