Many people imagine that when a plane stops flying, its journey comes to an end. But what if we told you that, at Sucatas Bim, the life of these “retired giants” is just beginning? Located in Campinas, the aircraft scrapyard has become so popular that it has turned into a veritable aviation museum.
Just an hour from São Paulo, the site features aircraft wrecks such as Boeing 727s and 737s, an Airbus A318, private jets, and even military aircraft. The most interesting part is that this “scrap museum” is fully interactive! In other words, you can climb inside the aircraft, fiddle with the controls, and even pretend to start the engines.

Discover the new aviation museum in the interior of São Paulo
Initially, Sucatas Bim had no intention of becoming a museum. It all started about ten years ago, when the owner, Valério Bim, acquired a small plane to decorate the street. The intention was simply to attract customers, but the public realized that the junkyard specialized in aircraft, and new models began to arrive.
The yard has thus become a vast collection of aircraft hulls. Although the initial goal was to reuse and resell the parts, more and more visitors began frequenting the site to take photos and see the planes up close.
Given this, Sucatas Bim has reinvented itself as one of Campinas’ major tourist attractions. There, you can walk through the fuselages, touch the parts, and see these aviation veterans from a totally new perspective. After all, arriving at the junkyard wasn’t the end, but just a new beginning!
How about buying your own jet at Sucatas Bim?
During the tour, you’ll get to see aviation relics up close. Among the entire collection, one model stands out: a Cessna 150, a single-engine aircraft from the 1960s and 1970s that remains in excellent condition. In addition to admiring it, you can take it home for R$ 100,000.
After all, the junkyard is still active today, and the models on display remain for sale to collectors or creative entrepreneurs. Many of Sucatas Bim’s planes have even been given new life and turned into restaurants, hotels, bars, and even homes! Just don’t try to fly them: for obvious reasons, none of the aircraft are fit for their original purpose.
If a retired plane doesn’t fit your budget, don’t be sad. You can take other souvenirs home, such as seat belts, emergency doors, tires, or even original seats. Imagine how stylish they would look in your living room!
