The interior of São Paulo is a great destination for those who enjoy adventure tourism but the truth is that you don’t have to leave the capital to practice extreme sports. One example is abseiling down the Sumaré Bridge, which brings the thrill of the sport to the urban area!
At 29 meters high, the iconic West Zone viaduct welcomes adventurers from all over the capital, who can get a taste of the adrenaline rush without having to travel far from home.
How does abseiling on the Sumaré Bridge work?
The idea of practicing extreme sports on the viaduct began a long time ago, in the early 2000s. It is now a well-established practice, with accredited companies offering adventurous experiences in comfort and safety.
The most famous of these is certainly abseiling, a practice inspired by mountaineering to descend free spans and walls with the support of ropes. You can also practise rope jumping, also known as the human pendulum, where jumping with ropes gives you the sensation of free-falling.
Adrenaline without leaving São Paulo
Urban abseiling is a good opportunity to try the sport safely. After all, the descent takes place through a specialized company, which has its own equipment and guides to help the public.
What’s more, access is much simpler than other abseils in the interior of São Paulo: it’ s right next to the Sumaré subway station! In other words, to get there, just take Line 2-Green or one of the buses that circulate in the area.
Abseiling from the Sumaré Bridge takes place on specific days, often at weekends. To take part, check the dates of the companies. RapelSP and Vertical Negativo SP, for example, are two traditional names that offer the service!
