We spent a day in Liberdade, following an itinerary that avoids the clichés, and put together a selection of our favorites. This way, you can also explore the neighborhood and discover new places. So, get ready to embark on this one-day tour of Liberdade!
Korea Mart
To start, we’ll pick up today’s snacks at the famous Korea Mart, a Korean market that brings the best of the East to our kitchen. There, you can find treats, soft drinks, and kitchenware commonly found in Asian homes.
Galvão Bueno Street

Snack of the day secured, it’s time to snap a photo. After all, Liberdade is one of the most photogenic neighborhoods in São Paulo.
On Galvão Bueno Street, the traditional Japanese lanterns, which adorn most of the streets in the area, and the large gate (torii) look great in photos.
Jardim Oriental

On the same street is the small Jardim Oriental, which, with its architecture, plants, and even the koi pond, takes us on a trip to Japan.
In addition to great photo opportunities, the space—designed in the style of famous Japanese gardens—offers a brief escape from the hustle and bustle of São Paulo.

Since we’re at Hello Kitty’s place, it’s worth checking out one of the Eat Asia locations! In addition to snapping a selfie next to the most beloved kitty of all, you can sample the place’s delicious offerings.
The world’s first Hello Kitty and Friends 2D restaurant opened to the public in 2023, in Liberdade. The entire space was hand-painted in black and white, in 2D style, by artist Carol Wang.

How about a coffee break at São Paulo’s most famous café? In addition to its futuristic and minimalist architecture, the spot offers colorful and super Instagram-worthy treats. In other words, a stop to guarantee great photos and videos for social media.
Ikkousha
Instagram feed stocked up, it’s time for lunch in Liberdade.
Our choice was Ikkousha, a restaurant specializing in ramen. In addition to appetizer options, customers can choose the doneness of the noodles, the amount of soy sauce, and the level of spiciness. The menu also provides details on each dish (such as the broth’s thickness).
We liked it so much that it’s already made it onto our list of favorites and approved spots.

How about getting your dessert at Brazil’s first “silent service” bakery? At Kirameki, the experience is as sweet as the menu. We were served by the mascot Kiki through the “rabbit hole,” without having to say a word!
It’s worth trying the “Capybara Choux Cream, ” a capybara-shaped pastry with a creamy chocolate filling that delights both children and adults.
Next, how about a fun experience in the heart of Liberdade? Pink Inc combines the fun of plushie claw machines with a cozy café, perfect for taking a break from sightseeing. The unique feature is that each machine has only one type of plushie, increasing your chances of leaving with your favorite one!

Finally, we visited the Lohan Temple, a Buddhist kung fu school housed in a historic building. The place goes almost unnoticed by those walking through the area!
You can explore the space even if you’re not a student, learn about ancient Chinese culture—from writing to medicine—and even participate in one of the kung fu training sessions. Learn more about guided tours at this link.
