An innovative installation combining technology and perfumery is drawing lines of people waiting up to two hours at the FIESP Cultural Center, right on Paulista Avenue. The attraction is part of the latest edition of FILE ( International Festival of Electronic Language) and catches the eye of anyone passing by one of the city’s busiest cultural hubs.
The installation “Algorithmic Perfumery by EveryHuman, ” by artist Frederik Duerinck, lets you create a free perfume. The magic happens on the spot, with intelligent algorithms that transform each visitor’s memories into a unique and exclusive fragrance.
AI perfume? Learn how the machine creates the fragrance
The experience begins in the digital realm. The visitor accesses a platform and starts a text-based conversation with an artificial intelligence system, discussing topics such as emotions, dreams, and personal memories. The virtual assistant then processes these words and cross-references the data to create an olfactory profile.
There are 54 vials of different olfactory accords, ranging from smoky woods to floral notes. This variety of raw materials allows the system to generate millions of combinations, ensuring the originality of each fragrance. The system itself explains: the more detail you provide about your stories, the more information the machine has to craft the perfect formula!

From code to bottle
At the end of the virtual chat, the platform provides you with a numeric code. Then, simply enter this sequence on the machine’s keyboard, which immediately activates the valves specified by the digital recipe and fills a small glass vial, delivering the final product of this co-creation between human and machine. It’s all free!
Demand for this experience is very high, so we recommend arriving early. After picking up your personalized perfume, you can visit the other fantastic artworks and audiovisual installations the festival has to offer!
