Nazaré Paulista is just 88 kilometers from São Paulo and is one of those hidden gems we find in the interior of São Paulo. With several waterfalls and a reservoir with clear waters, the town is the perfect attraction for those looking for a day trip , or even a long weekend. So if you’re thinking of making a getaway, here’s a short guide to what to do in Nazaré Paulista. Check it out!
What to do in Nazaré Paulista?
Atibainha Dam
First of all, the Atibainha Dam is one of the city’s most refreshing attractions. At the foot of the Serra da Mantiqueira, it offers leisure and relaxation in close proximity to nature. There you can go boating, do some sport fishing or even water sports such as jet skiing and stand up paddle.
Itaberaba State Park
In addition to the dam, part of the Itaberaba State Park is in Nazaré Paulista. There are 15,000 hectares of preserved forest in total, which are home to several species of endangered plants and animals! Admission is free and there you can go hiking, visit waterfalls, lakes and rivers, admire the viewpoints and, of course, connect with nature.
Nazaré Paulista waterfalls
For those who want to enjoy a day outdoors, another option is the waterfalls of Nazaré Paulista. One of the most visited is Vicente Nunes Waterfall which, despite being (very) small, attracts tourists and locals alike during the hot season. But be aware that there is a trail to get there. Be prepared!
The Pião Waterfall has a drop of eight meters and is another favorite among the locals. Just like the BarrocãoWaterfall, which is in the neighboring municipality of Bom Jesus dos Perdões, but is also a must-see!
Cuiabá Manor House
Also known as the “House of the Slaves“, the Casarão de Cuiabá is an 18th century building that formerly housed enslaved people who worked in the region. The site preserves part of its original structure and furnishings and is currently a point of historical interest in the region.
Although it is widely advertised for tourism, it is worth remembering that the building is on private property. You therefore need to ask the owners for permission to enter when you arrive.
Recanto do Teixeira
If you’re looking for a getaway in style, you can stay at Recanto do Teixeira, an all-inclusive resort in Nazaré Paulista. As well as all-you-can-eat meals, the hotel offers heated swimming pools, courts and even a mini farm with guided activities for children. The perfect accommodation for the whole family!
