The ’51st Retrospective of the Prof. Dimas de Melo Pimenta II Clock Museum ‘ is an annual event that celebrates the legacy of the hour and minute indicator mechanism, a historic technology. It is said that the first mechanical clock appeared in 725 AD, but to this day the equipment is essential for our routine and organization. So the item has a long journey to tell!
The exhibition space is unprecedented, being the only one of its kind in the whole of Latin America and has existed since 1950. In addition, visitors will find more than 600 watches of various models from all over the world. In other words, as well as being a journey through the gears that make up the system, it’s also a tour of the globe.
What can I expect from the 51st Clock Museum Retrospective?
This event is a celebration of the history and evolution of watches. So get ready to see lots of pieces, even rare ones! In addition to the exhibitions, the organization will be offering guided tours and talks on the subject. This is a perfect opportunity to connect with the rich history of watchmaking and appreciate the art of making these unique items.
This year’s highlight is a Talking Clock. Invented between 1910 and 1912 in Germany, the model is considered innovative, rare and technological because it has an acetate phonograph system that announces the time at regular intervals. This complex mechanism remains in operation and can be observed during the event.
