‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’ is an amazing tour for geology lovers. Denise Milan’s exhibition displays the results of her 40 years of searching for natural relics in the caves of Brazil. But we’re not talking about the economic value of these pieces, but rather the efforts of the contemporary Brazilian artist to understand the mysteries of existence through her mineral works.
The exhibition is inspired by Jules Verne’s science fiction book Journey to the Center of the Earth. Since 1864, the curiosities surrounding the site have remained the same. Maitê Leite, Santander’s Institutional Executive Vice-President, comments:
This space is an invitation to unleash the imagination and explore a place where we will probably never go, but where, in a matrix way, everything and everyone we come from.”
What will you see in Denise Milan’s ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’?
The exhibition is full of items such as mirrors, abysses, rocks and ores. Together, they create an environment for contemplating the underground world. In all, there are 18 works which, in the form of metaphors, explore the human being’s incessant search for self-knowledge and understanding of the mysteries of existence.
Among the rocks on display, visitors will find quartz, basalt, amethysts, crystals, rose quartz, gypsum, sodalite and other minerals. So, if you collect crystals or want to appreciate the beauty of this material that has enchanted society for thousands of years, you can’t miss this exhibition.
