On August 31 and September 1, the Tom Jobim Youth Orchestra will present an ode to the composer’s cinematic repertoire, which gives its name to the musical ensemble. The cast is made up of the orchestra, Nelson Ayres and Débora Gurgel share the conducting and Tiago Costa plays the piano.

Tom Jobim Youth Orchestra at Theatro São Pedro
The performance features a cinematic cut to the composer’s works. Highlighting his creations that packed iconic moments of cinema and television. Among the classics performed by the group is ‘Tema de amor para Gabriela’, from the soap opera Gabriela Cravo e Canela, and ‘Passarim’, from O tempo e o Vento. In addition, the program includes 12 songs for the performance.

About the orchestra
The musical group, conducted by Nelson Ayres and Tiago Costa, is especially dedicated to orchestral Brazilian popular music. Although they perform great Brazilian composers, this orchestra focuses on the compositions of Tom Jobim.
The performances are part of the training process of the scholarship musicians. They thus broaden the repertoire and experiences of the students involved in the project. The artistic group is linked to the EMESP Tom Jobim, an institution of the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the São Paulo State Government. So, when you attend the show, as well as listening to the works of one of Brazil’s most celebrated composers, you’ll also be honoring the emerging names in orchestral music.
