Released just under a month ago, Wicked has already become one of the most talked-about films of the year. If you’re one of those people who saw the movie and became a fan of the narrative, then here’s the perfect tip for you: watch the new musical “The Wizard of Oz”.
The new production will open in São Paulo in January 2025, directed by Billy Bond. It returns to São Paulo as a tribute to the centenary of actress Judy Garland, who played Dorothy in the 1939 feature film. Check out all the details about the musical below!
“The Wizard of Oz”: check out the details of the super-production
The show brings L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel to the stage. The famous story tells of the adventures of Dorothy and her little dog Toto, who, after being trapped in a cyclone, end up in a more than distant land: the World of Oz. They then make friends with the Lion, the Scarecrow and other local characters, who help them on their journey home.
The first staging of “The Wizard of Oz” in Brazil was in 2003, also directed by Billy Bond. At the time, the musical was a hit with audiences due to its elaborate production, with more than 40 people on stage, several sets and detailed costumes.
More than twenty years later, “The Wizard of Oz” returns as a super-production full of special effects, without losing the playful essence of the narrative. Oversized fans, for example, will give the audience the feeling of being with Dorothy in the cyclone, while LED screens and 4D equipment transport the audience to the spectacular world of Oz. In addition, all the dialog and music will be in Portuguese, with new songs.
