If you missed the mega-exhibition of Tarsila do Amaral held by MASP in 2019, get ready for a new unmissable opportunity. The unprecedented exhibition “São Paulo – Paris: The Discovery of Tarsila do Amaral” has just opened its doors at the Palácio dos Bandeirantes, celebrating one of the most iconic artists of Brazilian modernism.
The initiative is also part of the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the Artistic-Cultural Collection of the Palaces of the State of São Paulo, reinforcing the space’s commitment to free access to art and national history. It’s a unique chance to see up close works that marked different phases of the painter’s career.

“São Paulo – Paris: The Discovery of Tarsila do Amaral”
The exhibition features 16 original works by Tarsila do Amaral, created between the 1910s and 1960s. The paintings, displayed in the elegant Salão dos Pratos, show the artist’s evolution from her early studies to the consolidation of her modernist language, which revolutionized Brazilian art.
The central axis of the show is the dialog between São Paulo and Paris, cities that shaped Tarsila‘s outlook and sensibility. From São Paulo, she brought vibrant colors, memories of her childhood on the farm and the energy of the metropolis. In Paris, during the cultural effervescence of the 1920s, she immersed herself in the European avant-garde and discovered in modernism a way to reinvent Brazil’s visual identity.
