‘Singular Plural: Rubem Valentim’ is on show at the Museu Afro Brasil
Rubem Valentim was born in Salvador in 1922 and became one of his state’s most prominent artists. He worked mainly with geometric forms full of symbolism, which explored the cultural and religious diversity of Brazil.
Drawing inspiration from masks, statues and altars, he re-signified orisha instruments and created his own language to express cultural ideas and traditions. Many of his works are part of the collection of the Museu Afro Brasil, and become even closer to the public through ‘Singular Plural: Rubem Valentim’.
