Film lovers can now celebrate, because the 48th edition of the São Paulo International Film Festival is coming! From October 17 to 30, the public will be able to see hundreds of titles from different countries, in cinemas throughout the capital. The full program has not yet been released, but here are some interesting spoilers of what this edition will be like. Check them out:
São Paulo International Film Festival 2024: what we know so far
National premiere of “Ainda Estou Aqui”
This Wednesday, the organization announced that the Mostra will feature the national premiere of the feature film “Ainda Estou Aqui”. Based on the book of the same name by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, the film won the best screenplay award at the Venice Film Festival and is said to be one of Brazil’s promises for the Oscars 2025.
The plot tells the story of Eunice Paiva (Fernanda Torres), the author’s mother. After the arrest and disappearance of her husband, Rubens Paiva (Selton Mello), she became one of the symbols of the struggle to open the archives on the military dictatorship.
Focus on Indian films
This year, the great filmmaker honored by the program will be the Indian Satyajit Ray (1921-1992). Screenwriter, writer and art director, Ray directed 37 films, including features, shorts and documentaries. During the exhibition, the public will be able to watch a retrospective of the filmmaker, who will treat iconic films such as “The Song of the Road” (1955), “Aparajito” (1956) and “World of Apu” (1959).
Therefore, one of the focuses of the program will be Indian cinema. So get ready to see many masterpieces from the South Asian country!
