Discover the attractions of the São Paulo Canyons Region!
Who says you have to go abroad to see some of the most impressive canyons on the planet? The São Paulo Canyons Region is around 300 km from São Paulo, in other words, just 4 hours from the capital.
The town of Itararé, for example, is home to the beautiful Jaguaricatú Canyon, considered one of the largest in the world in terms of green area. The formation, which is on the border between São Paulo and Paraná, has walls of up to 80 meters and several waterfalls around it. Among them is the Cachoeira do Corisco, which is already on Paraná soil and has the highest waterfall in the region, at an impressive 107 meters high.
Another unmissable tourist spot is the Pirituba Canyon, in Itapeva and Bom Sucesso do Itararé. It lies in a transitional area between the Atlantic Forest and the Cerrado, allowing for an exuberant and certainly unforgettable landscape. It is an almost untouched region, so it doesn’t have much in the way of facilities. As a result, it is a very popular excursion for true adventurers.
When to visit the region?
The best time to visit the São Paulo Canyons Region is in the fall or spring, between March and May or from September to October. After all, the weather is milder at these times, which makes the trails more comfortable, with little rainfall. In this way, the volume of water in the waterfalls becomes ideal and provides tourists with incredible landscapes, with better climatic conditions for outdoor activities.
If you don’t mind the cold, winter (June to August) is also an option. But it’s important to note that temperatures can be very low, even negative at this time. So plan your trip well and be prepared for the low temperatures typical of the highlands.
