The “Marilyn Monroe 100 Years” exhibition has just arrived in São Paulo to celebrate the centennial of the actress who left her mark on pop culture. Starting June 2, audiences will be able to check out a selection of films that revisit various phases of Marilyn’s career, from her most famous titles to her “B-side.” The event, which is taking place at MIS São Paulo for a very short run, is the ideal setting to delve deeper into the career of one of the most iconic figures in world cinema.

“Marilyn Monroe 100 Years” breaks paradigms about the actress
More than just celebrating a historic date, the Marilyn Monroe exhibition in São Paulo offers a critical and in-depth look at her filmography. For this reason, the program challenges us to see beyond the sex symbol, recognizing her as an artist with a complex career.
Marilyn Monroe is commonly associated with glamour and sensuality, a vision that symbolizes both the construction and the exploitation of the female image by the entertainment industry. It is no wonder that her legacy continues to influence fashion and the visual arts to this day, more than 60 years after her death.
The exhibition therefore seeks to portray Marilyn beyond the famous flowing white dress. The public will be able to participate in discussions such as:
- The transformation of the artist’s personal life into a consumer product for the public;
- The contrast between public glamour and personal suffering, sparking contemporary discussions about mental health in the entertainment industry;
- The tension between empowerment and the objectification of the actress’s body and image.

Curation and programming of the exhibition: discover the “B-side” of Marilyn Monroe
Filmmaker André Sturm, curator of the exhibition, has selected 12 feature films starring the actress. Instead of bringing together classics already known to the public, such as *Gentlemen Prefer Blondes*, the collection focuses on the actress’s less popular (but no less iconic) works.
The “Marilyn Monroe 100 Years” program includes Westerns, dramas, and musicals in which the actress breaks away from the stereotype of the naive blonde. For example, “River of Lost Souls,” “Only Women Sin,” and “The Saving Lie,” her first leading role.
