We’ve just come off the long Easter weekend, and yet there’s only one question on Brazilians’ minds: when is the next day off? As always, we’re keeping an eye on the calendar to plan the next break. The good news is that, in April, we’ll have a national holiday that makes for a week with just 3 workdays!
Since we’re always planning ahead and are already mapping out our time off for 2027, we’re also happy to confirm that next year is packed with holidays that make short workweeks possible. Check out all the possibilities and take the chance to plan ahead!

Find out which holiday in April will make for a three-day workweek
On April 21, Brazil celebrates Tiradentes Day. The date honors Joaquim José da Silva Xavier, one of the leaders of the Inconfidência Mineira, who fought for the independence of the Captaincy of Minas Gerais and was executed by the Portuguese Crown on April 21, 1792.
This year, the holiday falls on a Tuesday. If your job allows for taking the day off before or after the holiday, you can have a “long weekend” and a week with just three workdays thanks to the April holiday.
For those living in São Paulo, this strategy will also apply to other dates in 2026. First, on Corpus Christi (June 4), and then on Constitutionalist Revolution Day (July 9). Both fall on a Thursday. How about taking Friday off and starting your break early?

Holidays in 2027: the year of Tuesdays
Finally, the good news is that next year also has plenty of days off for those who like to string them together. There will be four opportunities for “long weekends, ” concentrated mainly in the second half of the year:
- May 27 (Thursday): Corpus Christi
- September 7, 2027 (Tuesday): Brazilian Independence Day
- October 12 (Tuesday): Feast Day of the Patron Saint: Our Lady of Aparecida
- November 2 (Tuesday): All Souls’Day
