The Júlio Prestes Station, one of the capital’s most emblematic cultural spaces, has just got bigger! After renovations, the space has been given the CCR Arts Station, a new concert hall complementary to the Sala São Paulo, with capacity for up to 543 people.
The space will be inaugurated this Saturday, the 25th, on São Paulo’s birthday. To celebrate the date, the venue will host the show “The Arts at the Station”, whose central theme is one of the main elements of the building’s history: trains.
Tickets for the concert have unfortunately already sold out. But don’t be sad, as we’ll still have the chance to see many beautiful shows in the hall! So check out more details about the new space below.
Get to know the CCR Arts Station
The building that now houses Sala São Paulo was built in 1872 as a railway station. In the middle of the 20th century, however, the decline of the railroads meant that the site was abandoned. And so it was until 1990, when the space gained a new future by becoming the home of the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra (Osesp).
The CCR Arts Station is where the lobby of the Júlio Prestes Station used to be, where citizens bought their train tickets. With the renovation, it has been transformed into a multipurpose space with a 160-square-meter stage, which will host concerts, dance performances and film screenings. As well as socio-cultural and educational activities.
Despite the renovation, the new concert hall still retains the original features of the space. Thus, when visiting the new concert hall, the public will be able to admire colorful stained glass windows and three chandeliers from the time the station was built.
The program for next year is not yet available, but you can keep an eye on the Sala São Paulo website and social media to see when there will be an opportunity to visit the CCR Arts Station!
