After the success of ‘Rêverie’ earlier this year, renowned artist Flávia Junqueira is back with ‘Extasia’, a show that challenges the barriers of the oneiric and the real. Born from the union of “ecstasy” and “fantasy”, she translates the delirium and emotion of both words to the public through a large immersive installation, with playful photographs that connect to the viewers’ childhood and memory.
The exhibition will run from September 18 to January 26, 2025, at the Fiesp Cultural Center (Avenida Paulista, 1313 – Bela Vista). Admission is free and tickets will be available free of charge through the website.
‘Extasia’ reveals the dreamlike world of Flávia Junqueira
Curated by Bianca Coutinho Dias, ‘Extasia’ is a selection of the works produced by Junqueira in the last five years of her career. Starting from time, childhood and memory, the artist produces fantastical visual narratives in diverse environments, creating a new world of enchantment and magic.
In ‘Extasia’, nine staged photographs show the artist’s interventions in spaces such as Parque Lage and the Real Gabinete Português de Leitura, in Rio de Janeiro, and the Palacio de Linares, in Spain. Using latex balloons, she creates sensory scenarios that blend in with the elements of the environment. When they materialize in the space, they instigate a nostalgic feeling of childhood in visitors.
According to the artist, the aim is for the public to be transported to the works. “The public won’t just be viewers of the artwork, but will also be in the middle of it, feeling what’s in the photo beyond the photographic image”, she explains.
