Get ready to experience William Shakespeare’s classic works in a whole new way, in an interactive adaptation that combines theater, dance battles, and shots! The play “Drunken Shakespeare” presents the famous English tragedies * * in a party atmosphere, with (plenty of) alcohol and improvisation.
A dynamic narrative with a local twist
Unlike a conventional play, the performance incorporates comedic, unexpected, and chaotic elements. Audience members join the cast in pool noodle battles and dance-offs, for example! In addition, drinks are served to the audience and the actors during the performances.
The production adapts the original format of “Drunken Shakespeare, ” which has been a hit in U.S. cities such as New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. However, the Brazilian version features jokes and characteristics typical of Brazilian comedy, making the experience more relatable to São Paulo audiences.
“Drunken Shakespeare” offers two play options this season
The ticket to the show includes a welcome drink upon arrival. Throughout the play, the audience can order food, alcoholic beverages, and water directly from the waitstaff, without having to leave their seats!
This season, “Drunken Shakespeare” reimagines two works by the English playwright: “Hamlet” and “Romeo and Juliet.” The performances take place at various venues across São Paulo, such as Coringa Madá (Vila Madalena) and Clube Barbixas (Consolação).
The organizers announce new dates every month, but be warned: demand is extremely high, and tickets sell out quickly. Of the six July performances, five are already sold out, for example. So be sure to secure your spot as soon as possible!
