This charming mountain town is known for its beautiful lavender fields and for being the “Capital of Ceramics”. Located between the Serra do Mar, Bocaina and Quebra-Cangalha mountains, Cunha combines the best of gastronomy, culture and nature in one place.
As well as having the largest fleet of VW Beetles in Brazil, which generates an unmissable annual festival for those who enjoy the iconic automobile, Cunha is also part of the Estrada Real, a historic route that connected Minas Gerais to the coast.
What to do in Cunha?
Without a doubt, the main attraction of this inland town is its vast lavender fields. The 40,000 plants of the lilac flower form a beautiful view, great for enjoying the sunset. Visitors can also buy lavender-based products such as essential oils, air fresheners and even ice cream! The Lavandário is open to visitors from Friday to Sunday and on public holidays, from 10am until sunset.
But in addition to this attraction, the town has a panoramic view at Pedra da Macela, a nucleus of the Serra do Mar State Park, waterfalls, ceramics workshops, restaurants with unique gastronomy and much more.
When is the best time to visit this mountain town?
If you want to visit Cunha, know that the city has a colder climate, as it is located in the mountains. If you want to enjoy the trails and waterfalls, visit during the spring or summer, while if you enjoy the mountain climate and want to take part in the festivals, fall and winter are the best seasons.
