Reserva Cultural is one of São Paulo’s most iconic street cinemas, bringing together art, culture and gastronomy in one place. Located in the basement of the iconic Gazeta building, in the heart of Avenida Paulista, the space is the perfect destination for those wishing to spend an afternoon of culture in the capital.
At a time when mainstream cinemas are the majority, Reserva Cultural has become a haven for those who want a different kind of movie experience. After all, as well as alternative films, it also offers a bookshop, a boulangerie with typical French delicacies and Mediterranean dinners. Check it out!
Reserva Cultural: films, literature and gastronomy in one place
In 2005, Frenchman Jean Thomas Bernardini – founder of a film distribution company here in Brazil – felt the lack of independent cinemas in São Paulo. For him, many excellent productions didn’t get the recognition they deserved, since the big chains only showed mainstream films .
So the businessman founded Reserva Cultural, in the space where Cinema Gazeta, or Gazetinha, used to be. After all, the basement was the perfect place to attract mall moviegoers, as it offered amenities such as parking and security.
As well as showing alternative films, Reserva also has the Bistrô Reserva, which serves Mediterranean food, the French bakery Pain de France and a bookshop. So, more than just movies, it offers a complete cultural experience!
