Do you know the Mungunzá Container Theater? In recent weeks, the cultural space has been highlighted in the news, but beyond the controversy, it’s worth checking out what the theater offers.
Opened in 2017, the space was planned, financed and built by the artistic nucleus of Cia. Mungunzá de Teatro to be not only the company’s headquarters, but also a place to democratize access to culture and support local communities.

What is the Container Theater?
Made up of 15 shipping containers bought on the coast of São Paulo, the skeleton of the architectural complex was erected in just one night, thanks to the practicality and innovative proposal of the project. The building occupies a plot of about 100 m² and has glass walls and various rooms, such as:
- Music and audiovisual studio;
- Artistic and cultural collection;
- Vegan snack bar;
- Toilets;
- Ticket office;
- Dressing room.
In addition, the outdoor area also offers an open space, stage, living area, soccer field, hydroponic vegetable garden and a playground. The Container Theater uses this space, which is open to the public, and its equipment to welcome the local population, such as children during school breaks. To date, the cultural space has held around 4,000 artistic activities.

A theater unlike anything you’ve ever seen!
The Container Theater is located at Rua dos Gusmões, 43 – Santa Ifigênia. At the moment, its operation is still uncertain, but it’s worth keeping an eye on the cultural activities taking place there via the organization’s official Instagram: @teatrodeconteiner.
