Talking about dreams at Villa-Lobos Park has a very special feel to it; after all, the park itself is, in itself, a dream come true. It may be hard to imagine today, but in the 1980s, this space in the western part of São Paulo was a run-down area. Instead of trees and a place of refuge, it once served as a dump for trash and debris.
But the site underwent a profound transformation, and in 1994, it was inaugurated, establishing itself as a symbol of urban revitalization and demonstrating how an idea can move beyond the drawing board and transform the world around it. Now, in place of the old landfill, you’ll find bike paths, spaces for outdoor activities, and important cultural hubs, such as the Villa-Lobos Park Library.
And Villa-Lobos’ transformation doesn’t stop there. For a limited time, the park serves as the setting for the Brilha Sonhos festival , surprising São Paulo residents in a whole new way as night falls. With this event, you have the chance to walk through an enchanted forest filled with thousands of lights and special effects.
What to expect from the nighttime journey?
Now that you know dreams can truly come true, it’s time to immerse yourself in an unforgettable journey of light without leaving São Paulo. Ideal for all ages —but especially loved by children — the Brilha Sonhos festival offers a journey through the different phases of dreaming: falling asleep, dreaming, confronting, and waking up.
With 17 interactive environments spread across an area of more than 20,000 square meters, you’re invited to leave the real world behind and enter the world of dreams through an illuminated portal that marks the transition between two universes. Suspended clouds and theatrical moons welcome you to Brilha Sonhos.
Filled with colors, music, special effects, and lights, the route holds several surprises, such as liveperformers, a laser tunnel, labyrinthine paths, and piano pads that respond to your footsteps with light and sound as if it were a game—the little ones will love this attraction. But you know what the best part is? It’s the magical garden! There , thousands of glowing lights recreate fireflies and invite us to take a break.
During the tour, which can take up to 90 minutes to complete, take your time and go at your own pace. Along the way, you’ll find food and drink options if you need to recharge your batteries, and you’ll have to face a slightly more tense moment: an area that explores the world of nightmares, with a denser, darker atmosphere. But you can put your fears aside, because at the end , a rainbow marks your return to reality. And the biggest lesson?
