With free screenings until April 27, Programa Akáshico is a play that has been a success in São Paulo by offering an innovative and interactive experience. Bringing together technology and theater, the “game-play” integrates the use of an app in the midst of an epic and dramatic plot, leading viewers to have a decisive influence on the story and not just observe passively.
The play debates structural issues in society such as sexism, homophobia and mental health. By challenging everything that governs us as a collective, Programa Akáshico proposes an inversion of power by making available a technology where the participants in the intervention can decide the future of the narrative.
The play mixes technology and human essence
Lasting around 2h30, the play begins by inviting participants to take a personality test on the app, developed by Ian Borges. This way, you find out which character you can influence throughout the performance.
From there, you’ll be able to control the story of the Akashic Program and play a decisive role in how the plot unfolds. What the character does – or doesn’t do – is literally in your hands. With the play’s app, you can make choices and, finally, check out one of its possible narrative paths, just like in a game.
