On Thursday 23rd, Brazilians had a very special reason to celebrate. That’s because the Academy Awards have just announced this year’s nominees and Walter Sales’ feature film ‘Ainda Estou Aqui’ (I’m Still Here) is in the running for cinema’s biggest award in the Best Film and Best Foreign Language Film categories. In addition, Fernanda Torres has also been nominated in the Best Actress category.
Of course, the news raises the public’s expectations even more. After all, Fernanda Torres made history by becoming the first Brazilian to win the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama earlier this year.
In her speech, the actress thanked the director and her colleague Selton Mello, and dedicated the award to her mother, Fernanda Montenegro. The matriarch was nominated for the same award for ‘Central Station’ in 1999, but didn’t win.
