If you’re spending December 24 and 25 in São Paulo, it’s important to know what‘ s open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in the city. As the 25th is a national holiday, most workers will have the day off this Thursday. However, essential services, such as health, transportation and commerce, may still work special hours.
The 24th is not a national holiday, but an optional point after 1pm. This means that employers can choose whether or not there will be time off for employees in the afternoon.

What’s open on Christmas Eve in São Paulo?
Essential services
- Poupatempo: 09h to 12h
- Bank branches: 9am to 11am
- Post offices: closed
- Fuel stations: 6am to 8pm
- Subway and CPTM: normal operation
- Public hospitals: normal service for urgencies and emergencies
It’s worth noting that the vehicle rotation is suspended for cars until January 9th. The restriction only applies to trucks.

Parks & leisure
Most of São Paulo’s parks will be open special hours on Christmas Eve. Check out some of them:
- Ibirapuera Park: 5am to 6pm
- Villa-Lobos Park: 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Água Branca Park: 6am to 4pm
- Tietê Ecological Park: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Lajeado Park: 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Trianon and Mário Covas Parks: 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Please note: municipal planetariums, museums, public libraries, cultural centers, CEUs and all Sesc-SP units will be closed on December 24.

Shopping malls
If you still have presents left to buy, don’t worry. After all, São Paulo’s shopping malls will be open on Wednesday, December 24, but with reduced opening hours. For example:
- Grand Plaza, Frei Caneca , SP Market, Villa Lobos and West Plaza malls: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Interlagos, Pátio Higienópolis and Tietê Plazashopping centers : 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Shopping centers
The Penha, Butantã, SP Market and TriMais Places malls will be closed on December 25.
Other shopping centers in São Paulo will operate on an optional basis. In other words, each establishment can decide whether or not to open on Christmas. For this reason, it is recommended that you contact the store or restaurant you wish to visit to confirm that it will be open.
