The Water Lantern Festival is a first-of-its-kind spectacle in São Paulo, where people will be able to release eco-friendly paper lanterns bearing messages, memories, and wishes. It is a moving event of introspection and gratitude that will soon light up the Botanical Garden!
The event is inspired by Thailand’s Buddhist Yi Peng festival, in which people release lanterns into the sky as a symbol of letting go of problems and suffering, renewing themselves spiritually.
In addition, the event draws inspiration from the Loy Krathong tradition , in which people release floating lights on the water. Legend has it that if a couple’s lanterns float together, they are destined for eternal love. Isn’t that romantic?

What to expect from the Water Lantern Festival?
During the event, we will release our best thoughts onto the water. On the lanterns, you can write wishes, reflections, words of thanks, or any message that comes from the heart. Then, you can release it with an inner light onto the surface of the lake.
While the lights float, the venue will feature food and drink stands and music for the whole family. It’s the perfect opportunity to soak up good vibes and celebrate with the people you love!
It is worth noting that the Water Lantern Festival is fully sustainable and prioritizes the preservation of the Botanical Garden. For this reason, a dedicated team will collect each of the lanterns and clean up the area at the end of the event, ensuring that nothing is left behind.

This unique experience takes place on July 11, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the São Paulo Botanical Garden ( Avenida Miguel Estefno, 3031 – Vila Água Funda).
Ticket sales begin on May 27, but you can sign up for the waiting list now to get exclusive access to the presale and special conditions when securing your spot!
You can also purchase your eco-friendly lantern kit in advance to decorate them however you like before releasing them into the lake. Plus, on the day of the event, you can enjoy all the drinks and snacks available!
