After a successful weekend in August, the Water Lantern Festival is back in São Paulo! Once again, the people of São Paulo will be able to release eco-friendly paper lanterns bearing messages, memories, and wishes. It’s an exciting event of introspection and gratitude that will light up the Botanical Garden this October!
The event is inspired by Thailand’s Buddhist Yi Peng festival, during which people release lanterns into the sky as a symbol of letting go of problems and suffering, thereby renewing themselves spiritually.
Furthermore, this new event draws inspiration from the Loy Krathong tradition , in which people release floating lights onto the water. Legend has it that if a couple’s lanterns float together, they are destined for eternal love. Isn’t that romantic?

What can you expect from the Water Lantern Festival?
During the event, we’ll set our best thoughts free on the water. On the lanterns, you can write wishes, reflections, words of thanks, or any message that comes from the heart. Then, you can release it—with an inner light—onto the surface of the lake.
While the lights float, the venue will feature food and drink stands and music for the whole family. It’s the perfect opportunity to soak up some good vibes and celebrate with the people you love!
It’s worth noting that the Water Lantern Festival is fully sustainable and committed to preserving the Botanical Garden. For this reason, a dedicated team will collect every single lantern and clean up the area at the end of the event, ensuring that nothing is left behind.
