Did you know that August 13 is considered Vampires’ Day? In honor of the date, director and actress Liz Marins, who plays the character Liz Vamp, is organizing a special campaign to encourage the public to donate blood in São Paulo.
The daughter of José Mojica Marins, creator and star of Zé do Caixão, the filmmaker draws on the “ ” of Brazilian horror and Gothic aesthetics to subvert the vampire archetype. Instead of sucking blood, the idea is to donate—showing that a small gesture can make a difference for patients who depend on transfusions.
Vampire Day: Liz Vamp Turns Horror into Solidarity
Liz Vamp ’s initiative invites fans and curious onlookers from all over Brazil to join the movement. However, the official celebration of the campaign will take place in São Paulo, bringing together lovers of horror, gothic culture, and the vampire universe in one place.
After supporting the cause, the audience can enjoy an exclusive party at Madame Underground Club. The event will take place this Saturday, the 15th, starting at 10 p.m., featuring a costume party and contest.
Anyone who has donated blood in 2026 will be entitled to VIP admission to the party upon presentation of a photo ID and proof of donation. The goal is to recognize those who have contributed to blood supplies and encourage regular blood donation.

From Zé do Caixão to Blood Donation in São Paulo
The campaign also references the history of Brazilian horror, which gained fame primarily through the character Zé do Caixão. José Mojica Marins’ creation made its debut in the film *At Midnight I’ll Take Your Soul* (1964) and gained international fame as “Coffin Joe, ” propelling Brazilian productions onto the global stage.
Like her father, Liz Marins has created the fictional character Liz Vamp, a “mutant vampire” born from the relationship between Zé do Caixão and an English vampire. Through this, the filmmaker has produced several short films and artistic works.
In addition to her cultural impact, Liz Vamp has led the “Vampire Day” blood donation campaign since 2002. According to the Pró-Sangue Foundation, to donate, you must:
- Be between 16 and 69 years old, provided that the first donation was made before the age of 60;
- Weigh at least 50 kg;
- To have slept at least 5 hours in the last 24 hours;
- Avoid eating fatty foods in the four hours before donating;
- Bring an original ID with a recent photo.
