Did you know that you can take a Maria Fumaça ride at the Immigration Museum in the heart of São Paulo? The experience takes visitors back in time to the first half of the 20th century, reliving part of the journey made by thousands of immigrants who arrived in São Paulo at that time in search of a new home.
Thus, the attraction is an invitation to nostalgia, calling us to learn more about São Paulo’s past. With each whistle of the Maria Fumaça, we are transported to the golden age of the railroads and the great migrations, one of the most important chapters in São Paulo’s history.

Take a Maria Fumaça ride at the Immigration Museum!
The ride is more than just a cultural attraction – it’s a reminder of São Paulo’s history. After all, in the past, these rails were part of the routine of thousands of migrants and immigrants! After disembarking at the Port of Santos, they would take the train to the old Immigrants’ Hostel, which, by the way, is now the Immigration Museum.
The journey takes place in authentic locomotives, including an original Maria Fumaça from 1928. During the three-kilometer journey, it is possible to see other historic trains along the way all restored by the Brazilian Railway Preservation Association (ABPF).
Another detail is the specialized monitors who accompany the tours, sharing stories and simulating typical customs of the old train journeys in São Paulo.
