Rumo ao Natal is one of those events that transforms any ordinary evening into a magical moment. Held annually by Rumo, Brazil’s largest private railway operator, the project brings illuminated, decorated and completely redesigned trains to the tracks to celebrate the Christmas spirit. It’s the kind of attraction that enchants children, thrills adults and awakens that sparkle in the eye that only the end of the year can bring. And that’s no small feat: in 2024, more than 1 million people followed the train through their towns.

A show on rails
Between December 3 and 21, São Paulo will once again host this unique experience. This year’s train will feature two General Electric Transportation C30-7A locomotives, as well as an illuminated passenger car. In some cities, the public will also be able to enjoy special performances by saxophonist Derico, known for his band on Programa do Jô, a surprise that makes everything even more special.
The project has a much greater purpose than just lighting the way. It aims to preserve the memory of the railways. After all, this universe is part of Brazil’s history.

Rumo ao Natal route in SP
For almost three weeks, the illuminated train crosses various regions of the state, passing through small, medium and large towns, always attracting crowds. The big moment comes on December 21, when the train runs along sections of Line 7-Rubi and Line 11-Coral of CPTM, reaching Mogi das Cruzes. It’s the perfect closure for those who have been following the program since the beginning.
