Good news in the São Paulo music scene! In January 2025, audiences will once again have the opportunity to dive into the dark world of ‘Sweeney Todd – the Cruel Barber of Fleet Street’.
After the success of the 2022 season, Stephen Sondheim’s acclaimed musical returns to the Teatro Santander stage. But be warned, this time the season will be very short: only three weeks for those who want to see – or see again – the work.
Tickets start at R$21.18 and are already on sale at the official website and at the Teatro Santander box office.
High caliber production, ‘ Sweeney Todd’ returns to the stage
The musical captures the essence of Benjamin Barker, a barber who returns to London after 15 years, under the pseudonym Sweeney Todd, seeking revenge.
Played by renowned actor Saulo Vasconcelos, Todd teams up with Dona Lovett, a pie businesswoman with a macabre secret, played by the talented Andrezza Massei.
Together, they create one of the most chilling plots in musical theater, using questionable methods to fulfill their desires for revenge and commercial success.
In addition, the show is notable for its live orchestra and a cast of 18 actors who bring Victorian London to life.
In 2022, the show achieved huge public and critical success in Brazil, with sold-out sessions and eight nominations for the Bibi Ferreira Award.
The story
The musical tells the story of Benjamin Barker, a barber who is forced to leave London because of the cruel Judge Turpin (Rodrigo Mercadante).
After 15 years away from the city he returns under the pseudonym Sweeney Todd (Saulo Vasconcelos) and thirsts for revenge.
On arriving at the address of his old barbershop on Fleet Street, Todd comes across a dilapidated pie store run by Mrs. Lovett (Andrezza Massei).
From then on, Todd and Lovett join forces so that he can take revenge on Turpin, and she can make her store grow with pies filled with very suspicious ingredients.
