From August 29 to September 13, Pivô Copan will host the exhibition for its 15th Annual Pivô Auction. With free admission, the exhibition features works by more than 120 artists from 18 Brazilian states, offering a panorama of the country’s contemporary art scene.
The program celebrates the institution’s 15th anniversary; it is housed in one of the most iconic buildings in the city of São Paulo. Furthermore, it will be the final exhibition at the Pivô Copan gallery before it closes for renovations.
Exhibition Keeps Independent Gallery Up and Running
Founded in 2011, Pivô is an independent contemporary art platform based in São Paulo and Salvador. Through exhibitions, research, and residency programs, the space fosters exchange among artists at different stages of their careers and provides the public with access to works from various regions of the country.
Each year, the institution holds a charity auction to help maintain its spaces. All works are donated by the artists themselves, who may choose to donate the full hammer price or receive a portion of the proceeds. In every edition, bidding traditionally starts at 30% below market value.
Among the artists participating in this edition are Sônia Gomes, Rivane Neuenschwander, Marina Perez Simão, Eustáquio Neves, Kelton Campos Fausto, and Caroline Ricca Lee. You can view all the works on display on the event’s official website (leilaoanualpivo.org.br).
How about taking a work of art home?
The online auction for Pivô’s Annual Auction will take place on September 5 at 4:00 p.m. via the iArremate platform, with a simultaneous livestream on the institution’s channels. This edition marks the venue’s final public event at the Copan Building before the major renovation of its headquarters.
Over the course of 14 editions, the auction has brought together more than 600 artists and 1,700 works, establishing itself as one of Brazil’s largest initiatives for artistic mobilization. In addition, more than 1,500 people visit its exhibition annually.
The exhibition opening will take place on August 29, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Pivô Copan itself (Avenida Ipiranga, 200, in the República neighborhood). Later, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., the public can enjoy a party at Sol y Sombra ( Rua 13 de Maio, 180, in Bixiga) in honor of the independent institution’s 15th anniversary.
