Praia Grande, on the coast of São Paulo, will not be holding its traditional fireworks display this New Year’s Eve. According to the town hall, the cancellation is in consideration of people who are sensitive to the noise of fireworks, such as the elderly and people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as pets.
The news was released last Thursday (26) on the social networks of the local town hall, five days before New Year’s Eve, dividing the opinions of followers. Check out some of the reactions below:
Praia Grande: New Year’s Eve 2025 will not have a fireworks display
In its Instagram post, Praia Grande City Hall said that the cancellation of this year’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display was due to “public demonstrations by residents due to the negative effects of the fireworks”. In other words, people and animals sensitive to the noise caused by the bursts.
People with Autism Spectrum Disorder who are hypersensitive to sounds may experience discomfort, pain or seizures as a result of the fireworks show, as may the elderly or other sensitive people. Meanwhile, pets can experience stress spikes during the fireworks display, which can damage their health.
This is the second year in a row that Praia Grande City Hall has canceled the fireworks display.

Praia Grande is one of São Paulo’s favorite New Year’s Eve destinations. So the news that this year’s fireworks display has been canceled brought adverse reactions from tourists and locals alike.
@longoizabelcristina: There are silent fireworks mayor, a tourist city like ours, please right?
@antony54.12: Great news, congratulations Praia Grande City Hall
@carlacsantos2020: I really respect all this… But I think it’s absurd that a tourist city like Praia Grande doesn’t have fireworks…
@dr.marcellocruz: Congratulations on the right decision. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@iasmim.bag: I have an autistic child, elderly people, animals and I don’t agree. There are already fireworks without noise. And clearly that’s not the reason, because it opens the door for people to let off whatever they want, making the situation worse. Ridiculous!
@edel_santos_pg: I’m against fireworks. Talk to a mother with an autistic child, a family with a bedridden person, a representative of the animal cause or even an elderly person and I’m sure you’ll change your mind
@gianemariasilva: You’re kidding… My clients go to the beach to watch fireworks and there aren’t any more? What about the silent ones? Look, this way I’ll sell my houses here and move to another city… You’re hurting my business
