After its success in Rio de Janeiro, the award-winning musical ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ is about to open in São Paulo. The show, which has already won 6 Tony Awards, deals with sensitive and pertinent themes such as mental health and interpersonal relationships, based on the experience of a young man with Anxiety Disorder.
You can see the play until September 22 at Teatro Liberdade (R. São Joaquim, 129). Tickets range from R$60 to R$280 and are available at the theater box office or on the official website. Be sure not to miss out!
What to expect from ‘Dear Evan Hansen’?
The musical tells the story of Evan Hansen, a student with anxiety problems who feels out of place with his schoolmates. One day, however, he becomes the target of a lie that goes around the school corridors, and ends up in the spotlight. Hansen will therefore go through a journey of redemption and self-discovery, which includes bullying, depression and the need for emotional support from relatives and classmates.
The script for ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ is by Steven Lenson with music by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who also composed hits such as ‘La La Land’ and ‘Alladin’. Its premiere was in 2016 on Broadway, and since then it has won the Tony Awards, the most important awards on Broadway, as well as the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
The Brazilian production will feature Gab Lara in the lead role. The cast also includes Vannessa Gerbelli, Mouhamed Harfouch and Flavia Santana. The rating is 14 years old.
