Honk! SP! brings street fanfares to São Paulo
Fortunately, we don’t have to wait until February to miss Carnival. For four days, Honk! SP! is bringing fanfares from all over the country to occupy the streets of São Paulo with all the energy and fervor of the Carnival season.
Among the groups present will be the group from Belo Horizonte, Skanastra, which combines ska, reggae, wind and percussion. As well as the Mixtape Brass Band from Rio, who perform dance hits from the 1980s, and the NOLA Brass Band, from São Paulo, who promise a unique jazz experience.
And that’s just the beginning, you see. Check out the full program for each day on the event’s Instagram.
The program will also include talks and conversation circles
In addition to the lively fanfares, Honk! SP! promises other free cultural activities for the public. On Thursday 5th, for example, the round table discussion “Challenges, powers and technologies in the construction of independent and activist festivals” seeks to understand the current difficulties suffered by independent festivals, with the participation of Charlo Maurer (USA), Rolf Bateman (RJ), Erica de Castro (BH) and Carolis (POA) and mediation by Rocío Romero.
On this day, there will also be a chat on “Alternatives in cultural production and promotion for music in times of crisis”, with Inti Queiroz and Adriane Andrade. The festival will not only bring a great party to São Paulo. But it will also offer debates and reflections for the public engaged in independent festivals.
