Did Capitu betray Bentinho or not? If you want to immerse yourself even more in this suspense, be sure to see ‘Dom Casmurro – Musical’ on stage in São Paulo from November 4th. The show revives one of the most iconic works by Brazilian writer Machado de Assis.
The plot that marked generations, especially at school, is now transformed into a dramatic musical theater and relives Bentinho’s impasse. Has his wife betrayed him with his best friend, Escobar? And is his son really legitimate? These are some of the questions that arise in the protagonist’s head as the story progresses and it’s up to the audience to answer them!
What to expect from ‘Dom Casmurro – Musical’?
The play is a musical adaptation of the work by Machado de Assis. Just like the texts, the new production promises to bring all the suspense and drama experienced by the Santiago family. Timeless, the story portrays themes such as fidelity, toxic masculinity, distrust and jealousy.
Rodrigo Mercadante plays Bentinho and actress Luci Salutes will be Capitu. According to Courtney Henning Novak, the American fan of Machado de Assis who went viral on the internet and accompanied a rehearsal of the musical, Luci really does have the striking “oblique and dissimulated gypsy eyes” described in the narrative.
