It’s no news that during the carnival season the city adapts to welcome the revellers and the hundreds of blocos that rock SP. That’s why you might be curious to know if the subway runs during Carnival, and the answer is: Yes! But before you set off on your journey, it’s a good idea to check out the special timetables for these services.
Metro during Carnival: check out the operation!
From Friday 28th, the São Paulo Metro will operate 24 hours a day. This schedule ends only at the end of Monday, the 3rd. In other words, during these four days, users will be able to use transport at any time and, according to the Operational Control Center (CCO), if necessary due to the high flow of passengers, there will be an increase in the fleet.
On the CPTM, trains will operate at different times. On Saturday and Monday, the 1st and 3rd, the operation will follow the Saturday intervals; on Sunday and Tuesday, the 2nd and 4th, the operation will follow the Sunday intervals; on Ash Wednesday, the 5th, the operation will run as a working day. Check out the intervals for each line by clicking here.
The tip is to make sure you have your ticket in hand in advance, either by using the transport cards or securing a single ticket via the TOP app. This helps to avoid queues, as the demand of the carnival season tends to overload the public transport system.
What about intercity buses?
Those who come from the metropolitan region to enjoy the blocosquinhos in the capital are not left out! The intercity lines, which are managed by EMTU, will operate on Saturday and Sunday with the normal schedule for their respective days. On weekdays, however, they will follow a different plan: on Monday and Ash Wednesday, the 3rd and 5th, the operation will follow the Saturday schedule; on Tuesday, the 4th, the operation will follow the Sunday schedule.
Now all you have to do is plan your route and enjoy São Paulo to the full! Remember to wear cool, comfortable clothes wear suitable footwear to spend hours dancing, keep your belongings close to and in front of your body and, above all, stay hydrated!
