The interior of São Paulo hides some real natural gems. The small town of Bofete, 198 km from the capital, is home to around 12,000 inhabitants and is an excellent ecotourism destination in the state. There, visitors are enchanted by the natural landscapes, especially the breathtaking mountains.
The municipality, located in the central-southern region of São Paulo, was founded in 1847 and has a strong influence of the muleteer culture, since the region was a support point during expeditions through the forest. That’s why you can still find remnants of this time there today.
Check out Bofete’s tourist attractions:
Without a doubt, the town’s greatest attraction is the Sleeping Giant, a set of mountains that, when seen from afar, looks like a man lying down in the middle of the forest. To see it, follow the signs on Estrada Constantino Paulleti.
Another star of Bofete is Três Pedras, located on the road of the same name, where visitors can abseil, explore caves and contemplate the region’s exuberant nature. You can also visit the Church of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, located in Praça da Matriz, the Refúgio winery and the Rosa Olivia Zanchetta viewpoint.
Tips for visiting the city:
Bofete is a municipality that can be visited at any time of year, as the region’s climate is very mild and favors outdoor activities. The hotel network is also diverse, offering options both in the city and in the countryside– you just have to choose the one that suits you best.
In addition to the charming inns, the local cuisine is second to none! There, visitors will find traditional dishes such as arroz-de-carreteiro and feijão-de-tropeiro, prepared on a wood-burning stove. Both are a result of the tropeira culture in the area.
