Actress and filmmaker Angelina Jolie was in São Paulo last week and announced that she will be opening a fashion and creativity studio in the capital. Named “Ateliê Jolie”, the initiative already has a unit in New York and acts as a hub for promoting new fashion, art and design artists.
The atelier is expected to be located in Bela Vista, in a complex that already has an art gallery and other cultural establishments. Here’s everything we know about the news!
Ateliê Jolie: what will Angelina Jolie’s artistic hub in São Paulo be like?
The novelty is still in the negotiation phase, so there is still no forecast of when the atelier will open. However, during her stay in São Paulo, Angelina Jolie took part in negotiations with the managers of Cidade Matarazzo, a luxury complex which also houses the Rosewood São Paulo. So we now know where the atelier will be located.
And what will Atelier Jolie offer? At its headquarters in New York, the initiative promotes art exhibitions, as well as classes, workshops and residencies for artists. The aim is to be a co-creation space for fashion and design, promoting emerging artists.
In addition, the New York space hosts a multi-cultural gastronomy café, with chefs from all over the world serving flavors from Russia, Sudan, Afghanistan, Iran, Nepal, Sri Lanka and more. Who knows, maybe we’ll have something similar in São Paulo?
Angelina Jolie also visited the Immigrant Center
Known for her humanitarian work, the actress and director made other visits during her time in Brazil. One of them was to the Center for Human Rights and Immigrant Citizenship (CDHIC), where she spoke with community leaders from Afghanistan, Bolivia and Cameroon.
In addition, Angelina Jolie met with local Brazilian designers, such as Maurício Duarte, an indigenous man from the Kaixanã ethnic group, and Juarez Tenório, from DoD Alfaiataria, with whom she discussed sustainable fashion social projects.
