Did you know that a beach just two hours from São Paulo is one of the most sustainable in the world? Located in Guarujá, about 100 km from the capital, Praia do Tombo has just been awarded the Blue Flag seal, an international ecological award that certifies the environmental quality of coastlines all over the world. It is the only beach in the state of São Paulo to receive the title in 2024.
This is the 15th consecutive year that Praia do Tombo has received the seal, making it the record holder not only in Brazil, but in the whole of South America. And no wonder. After all, with its clear, limpid waters, it attracts tourists from all over the state because it is the cleanest beach in Guarujá. Shall we get to know it?
Praia do Tombo: the state’s most sustainable beach is close to São Paulo
With its beautiful waters and good infrastructure, Praia do Tombo is a great choice for those who want to take a trip to the coast. With a length of 856 meters, it offers a bike path, spaces to practice sports and a lively social life with bars, kiosks and restaurants.
You can also take advantage of your stay in Guarujá to visit the Mirante das Galhetas. It is very close to Praia do Tombo and offers a breathtaking view of its waters, as well as the entire Baixada Santista.
Its name comes from the fact that the beach is – well – tumbledown. This means that, just a few steps into the sea, the depth increases considerably. As such, you need to be careful when bathing, especially if you are in the company of children or the elderly.
On the other hand, this type of beach allows beautiful waves to form for surfing. This is why Praia do Tombo is a favorite among surfers on the south coast. With an intense sea and strong waves, the place is perfect for incredible maneuvers, especially in the morning.
