On Tuesday 22nd, the results of ‘The World’s 50 Best Bars’ for 2024 were announced. The national highlight was Tan Tan, which came 31st in the ranking and was the only Brazilian bar on this year’s list.
The award, which recognizes the best bars in the world, is a true Oscar for high cocktails. So take your chance and get to know the São Paulo star and its good drinks.

Tan Tan: São Paulo among the best bars in the world
Opened in December 2015, Tan Tan has become a benchmark in São Paulo’s São Paulo cocktail scene. After all, what could have been just a ramen bar has evolved into a space that combines Japanese cuisine with innovative cocktails. Thus introducing a touch of Japanese bar culture to Brazil.
According to ‘The World’s 50 Best Bars’, the bar has:
A half-and-half concept in which you feel like you’re in a sophisticated restaurant and a cool bar at the same time.”
The award highlights the modern atmosphere with industrial elements, where bartenders serve creative cocktails on one side, while chefs offer dishes such as noodles, dumplings and katsu sandwiches on the other.
In addition, the drinks menu, signed by Caio Carvalhaes, is praised for mixing Japanese and Brazilian themes, while maintaining the classic structure of the cocktails. In other words, as the publication points out:
The house creations include the Ilha Do Medo, with Cachaça Princesa Isabel, cocoa honey, lemon and spices, which illustrates well: this is a Japanese restaurant-bar seen through Brazilian lenses.”
International recognition
This isn’t the first time Tan Tan has been recognized internationally. It first appeared on this list in 2019. Last year, the bar was in 56th place in the same award. Now, with the achievement of 25 positions, the team celebrated the feat in a post on their Instagram profile:
It’s been four years since Tan Tan was first listed in ‘The World’s 50 Best Bars’. […] It’s been four years of campaigning around the world, showing who we are, what we’re doing and where we come from. With all this, we were able to demonstrate that we can also be among the best in the world, that we are also cool and, most importantly, that we are Brazilian and never give up! Today, this achievement belongs to everyone who believed and continues to believe.”
What makes Tan Tan unique?
The interior design combines angular surfaces with materials such as wood, hammered metal and granite. This aesthetic creates a modern and welcoming atmosphere, as well as reflecting the blend of tradition and contemporaneity.
The cuisine on offer is a fusion of Japanese dishes with Brazilian influences. The menu includes noodles, dumplings and snacks such as the famous katsu sandos. In addition, ‘The World’s 50 Best Bars’ praised the house fries which, according to them, are “the most addictive you can imagine”.
But, of course, the great recognition comes from their inventive and flavorful cocktails. For example, some of the most popular creations include:
- Yo Yo: a combination of shochu (a typical Japanese distillate), artichoke amaro, dry vermouth, chocolate bitters and lemon.
- Ilha Do Medo: cachaça Princesa Isabel, cocoa honey, lemon and spices, representing the essence of the fusion between Japanese and Brazilian themes.
- Curupira: gin, cumaru, cambuci bubbly and mint cordial, resulting in a balance between sweetness and acidity.
- Tsukemono: tequila, wassabi and cucumber cordial, and orange bitter, gaining complexity as the ice melts.
