After the best beer and best wine in the world, it’s time for São Paulo to stand out in yet another gastronomic award. An olive oil from the interior of São Paulo has just been awarded the title of best in the world, beating brands with a tradition in the international market.
The recognition came at Flos Olei 2025, a specialized international award. After tasting labels from all over the world, the jury chose Koroneiki, from Azeite Sabiá, the best medium fruity oil on the planet. On Wednesday 25th, the brand was also awarded the distinction of best blend in the Southern Hemisphere by another foreign award. Find out the details below!
Best olive oil in the world comes from Santo Antônio do Pinhal
Azeite Sabiá was founded in 2014 by Bia Pereira and Bob Costa. Passionate about olive growing, they launched their first commercial label in 2020, and soon found themselves on the radar of international competitions. Production takes place in Santo Antônio do Pinhal, in the Serra da Mantiqueira, a region that currently stands out for its olive oil production.
Koroneiki, recently voted the best in the world, is produced from an olive of the same name, whose origin is from Greece. The label is available for R$129 on the Sabiá Olive Oil website, which describes it as having a fruity flavor with notes of tomato leaf and green apple, as well as moderate spiciness and bitterness.
Dobradinha: Sabiá Olive Oil also received an award for another label
On Wednesday 25th, Azeite Sabiá also took home the title of best blend in the Southern Hemisphere at the EVOO IOOC Awards, one of the most prestigious competitions in the extra virgin olive oil sector. More than 700 labels from different countries took part in the competition, which went through a long process of tastings before deciding on the winners.
The award went to Blend de Terroir, another of the brand’s major labels. The oil, which contains Arbequina, Arbosana, Koroneiki and Coratina olives, pairs well with seafood, pizza, meat and pasta. It is also available for purchase on the Azeite Sabiá website for R$129.
