Guarulhos can celebrate! This year, the city presented a project that will change the lives of residents and workers in the region. The long-awaited Guarulhos Metro is arriving with Line 19-Celeste, which promises to connect the city to the center of São Paulo in just 30 minutes.
The new line will start at Bosque Maia in Guarulhos and end at Anhangabaú station in the center of the capital. As well as shortening the route, the plan includes integration with other metro lines, such as Line 1-Blue, 2-Red and 3-Green. Can you imagine the time you’ll save on a daily basis?
When will this project come to fruition?
The proposed timetable is for construction to begin in 2026 and for the inauguration to take place in 2033. It may seem a long way off, but the positive impact the project will have on Guarulhos residents and workers is remarkable.
In addition, the project will be divided into three parts. Thus, each section will take care of a different part of the route, covering important stations such as Guarulhos-Centro, Vila Augusta and Vila Maria. Check out the proposed division:
- Bosque Maia to Itapegica: five stations and six ventilation shafts in Guarulhos;
- Jardim Julieta to Vila Maria: five stations, Vila Medeiros yard and six more ventilation shafts;
- Catumbi to Anhangabaú: five stations and, again, six ventilation shafts.
Why is Line 19-Celeste so important?
As well as being a major step forward for urban mobility, especially for the city of Guarulhos, Line 19-Celeste also promises to reduce traffic and create jobs with the line’s construction and operations. The project also aims to reduce the number of cars on the streets, reducing pollutant emissions and promoting a better quality of life for the population.
So far, the project has been budgeted at R$19.5 billion. The investment includes civil works, expropriations and the implementation of modern systems such as escalators and elevators in the stations.
