Just check out our guide to French restaurants in SP, which allow you to visit the City of Love without leaving the capital. C’est parti!
French restaurants in São Paulo
Freddy
One of the dishes most loved by the French is magret de canard, a kind of duck breast fillet. The meat, quite common in the country, has a stronger flavor than chicken and is traditionally accompanied by fries, salad or mashed potatoes.
In business since 1935, Freddy is the oldest French restaurant in São Paulo and offers a delicious magret de canard with grilled meat and apple puree. Don’t miss it!
📍 Rua Pedroso Alvarenga, 1170 – Itaim Bibi
Èze
Another French culinary tradition is the soupe à l’oignon, the famous onion soup. One of the French restaurants in SP that serves this delicacy is Èze, which serves typical Mediterranean cuisine from the south of France.
If onions aren’t your thing, we also recommend the Filé Rossini, which features filet mignon with the typical foie gras escalope. And to finish, we recommend the crème brûlée, a typical dessert made famous by the movie Amélie Poulain.
📍 Alameda Tietê, 513 – Jardins
Bistrot de Paris
A Parisian trademark is certainly the bistros, which are nothing more than smaller, cozy restaurants. Bistrot de Paris brings the experience of these establishments to SP, with all the cozy atmosphere of Parisian homes.
There, our tip is the bœuf bourguignon, with beef stewed in red wine accompanied by carrots and mushrooms. Fun fact: the name bœuf bourguignon means “Burgundy steak”, in homage to the region of Burgundy, where the dish originated.
📍 Rua Augusta, 2542 – Jardim Paulista
French grocery store
Next, another dish for those who want to venture into French cuisine is the steak tartare. It contains raw meat cut into small pieces, seasoned with salt, olive oil, onion, egg and other spices.
For those who want to try tartare in São Paulo, the tip is Mercearia do Francês, which serves French-Brazilian cuisine. There you can also find the famous onion soup au gratin and the confit de canard, confit duck.
📍 Rua Afonso Brás 200 – Vila Nova Conceição
La Casserole
Another restaurant serving authentic French cuisine in São Paulo is La Casserole. With seventy years of history, the house was founded by French immigrants and offers dishes that are very typical of the country. Like the famous escargot, a dish with snails that is very famous in the Mediterranean.
You’ll also find steak tartarand, onion soup and filet au poivre, steak in a mild chili sauce. With an extensive wine list and sparkling wines, which add an even more sophisticated touch to the experience.
📍 Largo do Arouche, 346 – República
Chez Amis
Another bistro for our list of French restaurants in SP! Chez Amis describes itself as “uncomplicated French”, with Franco-Brazilian cuisine. Of the typical dishes, our tip for seafood lovers is the Moules et Frites, mussels cooked in white wine with fries and baguette.
To further enhance the #Paris2024 experience, the house will be showing the Olympic games in its lounge. And it will offer a glass of Bordeaux wine to customers during this period!
📍 Rua Haddock Lobo, 74 – Consolação
LouLou
LouLou is inspired by 1970s France, bringing all the requirement and elegance of the country’s establishments. Here, the dishes are deconstructed versions of French and Mediterranean classics. Like the Bon Mignon, which features filet mignon medallion with risotto, black truffle foam and mini carrots.
During the Olympics, the house brings the exclusive drink LouLou in Paris. A blue, white and red drink in the colors of the French flag.
📍 Rua Barão de Capanema, 568 – Jardim Paulista
Les Deux Magots
The famous Parisian café Les Deux Magots has been in business since 1884, and has opened its first Latin American location right here in São Paulo.
Be sure to try the traditional French sandwiches Croque Monsieur and Croque Madame, the Confit Duck Leg or, if you prefer beef, the Entrecôte de Angus grilled in béarnaise sauce, which takes butter and white wine vinegar with herbs.
📍 Rua Colômbia 84 – Jardim Paulista
Le Napoleon
This brand new bistro opened in March of this year and has a menu very typical of French restaurants. Our tip for immersing yourself in the Parisian atmosphere is the foie patê, accompanied by bread rolls.
For dinner, treat yourself to the Boeuf Bourguignon, the Steak Tartare or the Steak au Poivre, steak in a spicy sauce. With several wine options to go with it, of course.
📍 Rua Peixoto Gomide, 1658 – Jardim Paulista
