How about some quality Italian food at a bargain price? São Paulo is soon hosting the 107th Festa de São Vito, the most traditional Italian celebration in Brazil. From just R$17.50, you can try pasta, antipasti and pastries and many other typical flavors!
The celebration will take place in June and July in Brás. As well as lots of Italian delicacies, you’ll be able to enjoy live music, a dance floor and more!
Taste Italian delicacies at the Feast of San Vito!
The celebration has its origins in 1918, when Italian immigrants from Polignano a Mare decided to hold a festival in honor of their patron saint, St. Vitus. The event, both religious and social, was so successful that by 1920 it was already the largest among the Italian immigrants in São Paulo.
To this day, the festival maintains the same typical recipes from the 20th century. This is thanks to the “Mammas di San Vito”, ladies aged between 50 and 80 who keep the tradition of their ancestors alive by annually preparing dishes from the Pugliese cuisine of southern Italy.
The party will take place at the São Vito Mártir Charitable Association and will have two areas. Firstly, the Cantina, a space with tables, seats and waiter service. It will also host live shows and a dance floor, with tickets ranging from R$70 to R$135, available now on the official website.
And then there’s the Food Court, which costs R$13 and will be available at the box office on festival days. In this space, the public pays for what they consume and can take advantage of shared tables, but without seats.
The menu will include pasta (spaghetti, penne and ricchitelle) and natural sauces made with fresh tomatoes and basil. As well as guimirella, a liver skewer; ficazzella, a kind of typical pastry stuffed with tomato, mozzarella and oregano; and eggplant, mushroom and olive antipasti and more!
How to take part?
The 107th Feast of San Vito will take place from May 31 to July 13, on Saturdays and Sundays, at 12 noon. Admission changes depending on the environment you choose:
