The São Paulo coast hides great gems, some of which are the beautiful Juruvaúva Dunes on Ilha Comprida. So, if you were dreaming of that expensive trip to Lençóis Maranhenses, you can do something just as impressive and much closer to the capital.
Ilha Comprida is Brazil’s largest sea island in linear extension. The region is crossed by the Mar Pequeno Channel, which connects it to the city of Iguape. There, you’ll also find the second largest beach in Brazil. It’s a journey that impresses from start to finish.
The famous Juruvaúva Dunes
Considered the highest in the municipality, some of the dunes reach an impressive 10 meters in height and, together, cover around 196 km²! As such, the tourist attraction offers an excellent viewpoint of the sea on the south coast of São Paulo, the Cordeirinho River and the typical flora of the region.
In addition to Juruvaúva, Ilha Comprida is also home to the Araçá Dunes, located 6 km away from Boqueirão Norte. They are smaller and don’t offer as many tourist facilities, but if you like nature and adventure, they are worth a visit.
How to visit the attraction:
The Dunas de Juruvaúva are 35 km from Boqueirão Norte, heading south. To get there, take Avenida Beira Mar and Estrada da Vizinhança. The local Tourist Attention Center recommends checking the tide table to reach the famous sand formations.
In addition, the island offers various plans for tourists. So, in addition to the dunes, you can also go on five hiking trails in the region, take part in the Ecological Safari aboard UTVs, which are off-road vehicles, and enjoy some great beaches. With all this, you can’t help but want to visit Ilha Comprida!
