Basilicata is one of the most Italian bakeries in São Paulo, serving handmade, hot pasta that attracts customers from all over the capital. But as well as the delicacies, it stands out for having been one of the city’s pioneers, with over 100 years of history and tradition.
The most curious thing is that even Brazil’s most famous racing driver surrendered to Basilicata’s charms! During his years in São Paulo, Ayrton Senna frequented the bakery and we can still see a photo with his autograph on a wall there.
Basilicata has a bread recipe over 100 years old!
The most Italian bakery in São Paulo was founded in 1914 by Felipe Ponzio, an immigrant from southern Italy. The aim was to create a truly Italian place, where the community could get closer to the country they had left behind. So, from the beginning, Basilicata has remained true to its origins, with authentic Italian recipes and flavors.
The good news is that this characteristic has been maintained, and to this day, visiting Basilicata transcends the gastronomic experience. It’s a journey back in time through the customs of Italy, savoring breads, sweets and pastas whose recipes have been passed down from generation to generation, crossing the ocean and reaching your table.
As well as a bakery, Basilicata also has a cafeteria and restaurant with dishes from southern Italy. So you can try a bit of everything. From coffee with panini or borsellino, a sandwich with pizza dough, to Napoletana pizzas, gnoccis, carbonara and more!
Finally, the restaurant has an emporium where you can buy wines, imported pasta and other Italian products. Everything to make your experience as complete and immersive in the Mediterranean country as possible.
